Cooking class: Valentines

This last week we celebrated Valentines Day. Seriously, it was a blast.

We were baking cookies so, because I only have one oven, I have to pre-bake a lot of items. I made "Artisan bread in five minutes a day," we have come to adore this recipe. I had them frozen and in bread bags so they could take it with them. One mini-loaf for each child.

I had sugar cookies also pre-made and in the freezer.

Each kid got to decorate one large Valentine heart and three small valentine heart cookies.

We melted chocolates, both red and white and put them into a chocolate mold and then into the freezer. They loved this part.

Being organized, I had bought quite a few clearance Valetines and so each kid got a personal Valentine from me, and then I had bought some plastic cups with hearts, and each kid got to take one home, filled with candy.

We made M&M cookies with pink and white M&M's.

I also had made red velvet cupcakes and froze them and they got to take a few home that they had frosted with white frosting. (Most of them complained and said they were horrible.) They had beets in them to turn them dark red. I didn't think they were bad, but maybe you had to be grown up to appreciate them.

We also made Valentine trail mix which turned out super-sweet. It looked great in the bag. They just took home a boatload of stuff home and I could tell they really had a lot of fun.

It was essentially: Kroger cereal, white chocolate pretzels, sweedish fish, white frosted Mother's animal cookies, cherry drops. We mixed it all together and placed it inside a cute pink and red striped bag.
